Summer in the Tyrolian Zugspitz Area tells its own stories – quietly, intensely, from within. It unfolds in the scents of flowering meadows, in that first coffee with a view of shimmering peaks, in the golden light of long evenings. And right at the heart of it all: events that turn beautiful days into unforgettable moments. Small highlights, big emotions – every event brings summer to life and invites you to experience it fully. We look forward to sharing these special summer days with you.

On 20 June 2026, the skies above Ehrwald, Lermoos and Biberwier will become the stage for a centuries-old spectacle: the ‘Berge in Flammen’ mountain fires. As dusk falls, the peaks glow, patterns of flame dance across slopes and ridges, and the landscape is transformed into a mesmerising sea of light. This tradition, held on the summer solstice, bathes the longest day of the year in a magical glow. Since 2010, the mountain fires have been listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage – a testament to their cultural significance. The spectacle, lasting around two hours, begins at around 10.00 pm and, weather permitting, creates an almost mystical atmosphere. Should the weather not cooperate, the alternative date is set for 27 June 2026. An experience best shared – and one that lingers long in the memory.
The mountains as a stage: adrenaline, thrills and the magic of the summit
For anyone looking to enjoy an active summer, the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena opens its doors to spectacular adventures. The season kicks off from 14 to 16 May with the Bike Opening at the Grubigsteinbahn in Lermoos – a lively weekend featuring test rides, shows and a festival atmosphere in the mountains, marking the start of the summer season in style. On 19 June 2026, the Zugspitz Ultra Trail will transform the mountain landscape into the beating heart of the trail running scene: Athletes will conquer steep trails and ridges, whilst over 5,000 participants, around 50 exhibitors and a festival atmosphere bring the summer to life. Seven routes – from the 16-kilometre run to the legendary 100-mile race – promise goosebumps, extreme experiences and pure mountain magic.
The Auner Austrian Gravity Series on 18 July 2026 also guarantees an adrenaline rush – on two wheels, hurtling downhill and full of excitement. Inspiration comes from the Alpine Climate Summit on 23 and 24 June, which presents nature and the environment from new perspectives, as well as the DIDIs Children’s Play Festival on 2 August at the Tirolerhaus. From 11.30 am to 5.00 pm, the sun terrace transforms into a colourful world of adventure full of laughter, activity and children’s beaming eyes – simply postponed to 9 August in the event of bad weather.
