A journey through time on the Zugspitze – reimagined
Where the mountains tell stories, the past suddenly comes to life: at the “Faszination Zugspitze” interactive museum, families can discover a world full of interactive experiences, fascinating technology and authentic pioneering history. Children are amazed, adults are captivated – and together, the visit becomes a journey through 100 years of mountain railway history.
Where it all began – the pioneers of the Zugspitze
The construction of the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn cable car around 100 years ago marked the start of a new era in the Alps: Tyrol’s first cable car and a true masterpiece of alpine engineering history. In the museum, this new beginning comes to life – with large-scale images, historical insights and modern displays that show just how courageous and visionary the pioneers were back then.
For children, this journey through time becomes particularly exciting when they are allowed to get involved themselves: in the original cabin no. 5 from 1978, a little ‘cabin memory’ game awaits, whilst an old telephone recounts surprising stories from the past. In this way, history becomes a playful adventure – and curiosity turns into genuine wonder.
Interactive worlds – discover, try out, marvel
The heart of the museum is what makes it so special: the chance to get involved. Instead of just looking, visitors can really immerse themselves here. A walk-in kaleidoscope blurs the views of the Zugspitze within a giant sphere – a magical moment that delights children and adults alike.
A 3D model of the entire region is brought to life through interactive elements, whilst digital animations make the historic cable cars seem to float across the landscape. Here, technology isn’t explained, but experienced – playfully, intuitively and full of surprises. That’s exactly what makes a visit so exciting for families: everyone discovers something new in their own way.
Weather, Change and Wonders – Experience the Zugspitze Today
In the final exhibition area, the Zugspitze once again reveals its most impressive side: as a place of ever-changing weather, transformation and the forces of nature. Interactive stations bring the climate and the mountains to life in a fun way – with plenty of little ‘aha’ moments, especially for children.
And if you look closely, you might even win a prize: the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn’s anniversary campaign “100 Years – 100 Prizes” will accompany your visit until 8 November 2026 with six stamp stations and the chance to win fantastic prizes – including two nights’ accommodation for two adults and two children at our Zugspitz Resort or culinary experiences at the summit.
This is how a visit to “Faszination Zugspitze” comes to an atmospheric close – as a little journey through nature, technology and wonder, before heading back to the Zugspitz Resort.
